In response to our patients’ needs and the rapidly changing circumstances of public health, we are pleased to offer you the option of a virtual office visit. Telehealth visits are a great alternative to office visits, erasing the commute while still being able to conveniently access Dr. Goldman as well as our Nutritionist/Holistic Health Coach Missy via a HIPAA-compliant, secure video platform.
Virtual office visits work perfectly for women with Menopause related concerns. The vast bulk of what we do in the office is to engage in deeply inquisitive conversations about your current and past health, in order to find the root causes of your current concerns. Additional lab work can often be done remotely, sometimes in your own home!
Dr. Gary Goldman is a board-certified OB/GYN and NYC Menopause Specialist who takes the time to hear your story and uses cutting-edge technology as well as a holistic approach to diagnose and reduce your Menopause symptoms. Located on the upper east side in Manhattan, Dr. Goldman provides you with a personalized evaluation and treatment plan. Call today to schedule your appointment or book online now.
Virtual Visits For Current Patients
Just as you would make an appointment for an in-office visit, please call our office at (212) 535-6100 to schedule a Virtual Visit with Dr. Goldman. You can reach Missy directly at (914) 819-8692. At your appointed time, you will be invited by email to video chat through Zoom. This app can be accessed through your computer or a mobile phone. As a current patient you may make a virtual appointment regardless of where you reside.
Virtual Visits For New Patients
If you are a resident of New York or Florida we can offer you a complete medical consultation with Dr. Goldman as he is licensed in both of these states. If you are not a resident of either state, or you are not a current patient in our practice, then we may not provide you with a physician appointment due to current telemedicine regulations.
Make a virtual appointment by calling the office at (212) 535-6100. You will be asked to complete our routine paperwork which you can access here: https://garygoldmanmd.com/for-patients/your-first-visit/ You must send all of the completed forms by fax at (212) 535-3956 before the time of your appointment or the appointment will be cancelled.
You may schedule a virtual appointment with our Nutritionist/Holistic Health Coach Missy regardless of your place of residence.
You may not book a Telemedicine appointment through Zocdoc
We must confirm your status by phone as a new or current patient, as well as the location of your residence, in order to satisfy regulatory requirements.
After evaluating many competing apps, we have partnered with Zoom for our telehealth visits. Zoom is a HIPAA-compliant, secure platform with a high-quality audio and video experience. When you are scheduled for a telehealth visit, you will receive an invitation to Zoom by email. Please connect to Zoom about ten minutes before your first virtual visit as you will need to download their software.
Payments for virtual visits are the same rate as an office visit. Credit card information will be taken at the time you schedule your appointment. You may cancel your appointment with at least 24 hours notice without penalty. Cancellations within 24 hours or ‘no-shows’ will incur a 50% fee. Please call ahead and speak with our secretary to discuss our fee schedule.
Just as we do not participate in any insurance plans for office visits, telemedicine visits are billed and paid at the time services are rendered. We will provide you with an appropriately coded superbill which you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. While telemedicine is generally considered to be reimbursable, each insurance company and each state has its own regulations. We cannot make any guarantees regarding your insurance reimbursement. Read more about our insurance policies here: https://garygoldmanmd.com/for-patients/insurance/
Any recommended lab studies based on our consultation can be obtained locally. We will send you a lab requisition form, which you may use at a laboratory close to your home. Alternatively, we offer lab drawing at our office by appointment.
While menopause is a part of life, and a natural part of a woman’s aging, suffering through common uncomfortable side effects isn’t inevitable. Menopause is a time of transition. A woman’s body is undergoing new and sometimes problematic physical changes. This phase of life should prompt an appointment to discuss your symptoms, your options, and your long-term health goals.
Dr. Goldman is a board-certified OB/GYN, and a NYC menopause specialist practicing a holistic and integrative functional medicine approach to menopausal symptoms. Located on the Upper East Side in Manhattan, Dr. Goldman provides you with a personalized evaluation and treatment plan. Contact us today to schedule your appointment or book online now.
Menopause Q & A
Menopausal symptoms and consequences can include:
- Irregular periods
- Hot flashes
- Night sweats
- Mood fluctuations
- Decreased vaginal lubrication leading to painful sex
- Diminished libido
- Slower metabolism leading to weight gain,
- Skin changes leading to wrinkling and laxity
- More rapid bone loss leading to osteoporosis
- Vascular degeneration increasing the risks of cardiovascular disease and dementia.
In the United States, the average age of menopause is typically around the age of 51. The most common time of menopause is about ages 45-55, and some will see their periods even younger or older. Roughly 1% of women will experience a naturally occurring premature menopause, often a result of a genetic of autoimmune disorder. This is called primary ovarian insufficiency, or premature ovarian failure.
The symptoms of menopause may precede loss of your periods and can last for months to years thereafter.
What Causes Menopause?
Normally, menopause is a natural part of aging. Hormone production begins to decrease when women are in their 40’s, and less estrogen and progesterone are available. These changes impact fertility and can also lead to common and uncomfortable side effects.
Surgical menopause occurs when both ovaries are removed, which sometimes accompanies a hysterectomy. With loss of the ovaries, estrogen and progesterone hormone production is abruptly halted. Various medications can also interfere with menstrual cycles and hormone production, including chemotherapy and corticosteroids.
A Holistic Treatment Approach to Menopausal Symptoms
This is a time for a personalized assessment of your particular menopausal risk factors. Together, we will review your personal health history, your family history, any symptoms that you find troublesome, and openly discuss your goals.
Treatment for Menopausal Symptoms
I take the time to review every menopausal treatment option, including:
- Stress management
- Hormone replacement therapy
- Bio-identical hormones
- Nutritional supplements
- ThermiVa vaginal rejuvenation
Based on your personal and family health history, we may recommend hormone replacement therapy. Formulations and modes of administration are customized and may include: estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, dihydroepiandosterone (DHEA) and others.
A Holistic Gynecologist and Holistic Approach to Menopause
There is no plan for menopause that is universally appropriate or effective. My goal is to help you find the best options that work for you, including natural remedies, lifestyle changes, and hormone therapies. Our goal is to make you feel more comfortable and to diminish long-term health risks.
Menopause is also an opportunity for self-reflection. Many women are coming to terms with the end of menstrual cycles, which often means the end of child-bearing options. Children are leaving home and couples must become reacquainted as new empty-nesters. This is a time to reevaluate goals, plans, and relationships. I take the time to discuss these issues and offer support and guidance.
Menopausal concerns must be individually addressed in a thoughtful and comprehensive way. I welcome the opportunity to help ease this transition, approaching each woman’s concerns with respect and dignity.
